VACTEA 2025: Seeing Friends, Deepening CTE Relationships

We had the best time on Wednesday, October 15 seeing old friends and making new ones at VACTEA, the annual gathering of CTE directors from across Virginia.

At the conference in Harrisonburg, we mingled with administrators who provide Rubin in their classrooms (like Prince William County and Alexandria, pictured) and shared our information with potential new customers.

We are also proud to sponsor (for the second year in a row) a trivia night competition!

Rubin Kicks Off Partnership with National Beta Student Club

We are thrilled to begin a partnership with National Beta, a student club that equips the next generation with tools and skills for leadership in school as well as life.

In addition to the national partnership, we are also the official sponsor of Beta’s National Convention Speech Competition. The sponsorship brings together two organizations dedicated to cultivating leadership and communication with today’s students.

“Rubin is a natural fit for National Beta,” said Roxanne Johnson, Event Marketing and Sponsorship Manager. “Their resources directly align with our mission to develop a community of leaders and will help Betas elevate their competition preparation for both State Conventions and Leadership Summits.”

Through this sponsorship, National Beta sponsors can gain free access to Rubin’s EMERGE product simply by signing up and scheduling a 10-minute welcome call. Schools and sponsors who wish to extend access to students can do so for just $10 per student, gaining full access to Rubin’s tools, badges, and certificates.

    Topics and learning modules include:

    • Phone and video etiquette
    • Life and employability skills
    • Social media etiquette
    • Email professionalism
    • Free Webinar Series from Industry Professionals

This sponsorship supports a goal of empowering students with practical, lifelong skills that extend beyond the classroom, helping them become not only better competitors but stronger leaders in their communities.

We are excited to get started!

The Rubin team is honored to be a finalist at the 757 TechNite awards reception. The event took place on Thursday, October 9 at the Chrysler Museum in Norfolk, Virginia.

We were among the nominees for the “Innovation in Education” award. The award recognizes an individual or organization that has transformed education in technology or entrepreneurship. Recipients stand out for their creative approaches to teaching, curriculum development, and educational technology. Their work demonstrates a clear commitment to improving student outcomes, inspiring a love of learning, and preparing students for the future.

While we didn’t take home the prize in our category, we are happy to support efforts around entrepreneurship and be considered among the region’s best.

Here are a few photos from the night!

  • Rubin Leads Resume Workshop, Kicks Off Engagement with Frederick Co. Schools

Rubin Leads Resume Workshop, Kicks Off Engagement with Frederick Co. Schools

There’s nothing more meaningful than meeting face to face.

That held true on two levels during the Senior Expo Experience on Friday, October 3 for Frederick County Public Schools in Winchester (Northern Virginia).

First, we led a resume workshop for 300+ seniors across the district. Rubin Founder Danny Rubin conducted a 15-minute crash course nine separate times as students in small groups shuffled in and out of the session. The workshop focused on how to use numbers to stand out on paper.

For example, it’s more powerful on a resume to include, as a store associate at Target, that you “check out 100 customers per day and 500 per week” rather than only write “store associate.”

The Senior Expo Experience also allowed our team to talk directly with district leadership, including Superintendent Dr. George Hummer, CTE Director George Bishop and School Board Chair Scott Sturdivant. The County now provides our products (ex: Emerge employability skills curriculum) to teachers and students within Google Classroom, and it’s important that school officials top down understand what goes on in the classroom.

At Rubin, we don’t “sell curriculum.” We develop partnerships with school districts so they trust that we are the premier resource for employability skills training. It helps a great deal to shake hands with local leadership so they know who we are.

Our thanks and appreciation to Frederick County Public Schools for having us at the Expo!

Check Out the Revamped Rubin Propel

After several months of retooling, Rubin Propel is back in action with improved features!

    Most notably, Propel is:

    1. Mandatory
    2. A game!

That’s right. Students now must use Propel and achieve a score of 85/100 a total of 20 times. Once they reach the “20” threshold, Propel becomes optional. Until that time, students must engage with Propel to learn critical lessons like:

    1. How to write a subject line (that doesn’t look like a text)
    2. How to address an adult appropriately
    3. How to leave a closing line and sign your name

Check out the updated Propel and let us know what you think!

    Improves student writing immediately.

Rubin Makes In-Roads with Correctional Educators

On Monday, August 11, the Rubin team traveled to Pittsburgh for the national conference of the Correctional Educators Association (CEA).

The CEA brings together educators in correctional institutions for networking and learning. Our team walked the exhibit floor, engaged with companies that support education for justice-involved individuals and sat in on learning sessions.

We hope to find meaningful ways to support inmates with career instruction. Our trip to Pittsburgh was a solid start!

  • Rubin Partners with Largest Online Website for Homeschool Community

Rubin Partners with Largest Online Website for Homeschool Community

Rubin has partnered with Rainbow Resource Center, the nation’s largest provider of educational materials to homeschool families.

Homeschool families can now purchase Rubin’s Emerge employability skills curriculum and Aspire career exploration platform on the Rainbow Resource website. The product pages feature descriptions, screenshots, demonstration videos and reviews written by Rainbow Resource “consultants,” a team of educators who help homeschool families identify learning materials.

The Rubin team met representatives from Rainbow Resource Center at the 2025 convention of the Homeschool Educators Association of Virginia. There is a known “gap” for career development resources in the homeschool community, and Rubin hopes to fill that need with high-quality instruction for skills like email/phone etiquette, resume writing, job interview prep and career exploration videos.

There are an estimated three million homeschool students in America as of the 25-26 academic year.

“We set a goal in 2025 to expand to new audiences outside of the traditional public school setting,” said Rubin Founder Danny Rubin. “Until now, homeschool families did not have a comprehensive resource for career development, and we are excited to share our instruction with families across the country.”

Rainbow Resource Center will feature Rubin on its homepage from August 12-18 to introduce Emerge and Aspire to the homeschool community.

  • Progress Report: Changes Big and Small to Propel

Progress Report: Changes Big and Small to Propel

In summer 2025, the Rubin team is working feverishly to prepare our Propel email etiquette tool for the 25-26 academic year.

Before we dove into product updates, we held a series of focus groups with teachers and students who used Propel in the 24-25 academic year. The students gave us starkly honest advice about what they like and don’t like from the tool, which is designed to teach professional email writing skills.

Here is a current list of changes we have implemented. The school year starts anew in six weeks so time is of the essence!

    • After hitting “Reanalyze” score lightbulbs now work
    • Discarding email now properly removes all popups related to Propel
    • Emails completed label moved to the upper right corner of the initial popup
    • Steps in the writing process changed to percentages
    • Suggestions for addressing now static
    • Added a simple bell curve to show how students’ scores compare with classmates
    • Language for top shown error changed
    • Domain label removed from dashboard
    • Properly positioned user name on Propel completed certificate
    • Add color coding to user score and make it out of 100
    • Add badge symbol to show whether complete or not and
    • Add label below telling them they need 20 emails to receive and make Propel optional
    • Remove extension icon from Compose window
