Rubin Emerge

Emerge
Lota always wanted to attend her dream school: UCLA.
The senior at Cathedral City High School near Palm Springs, CA knew she had the grades and extracurriculars to gain acceptance.
How to pay for college, however, was a different challenge.

That’s when Lota saw a scholarship opportunity from the UCLA Black Alumni Association.
Top prize: $40,000.
To win, Lota knew she had to be a cut above the competition. UCLA only accepts the best of the best from around the world.
To prepare for the big interview with the scholarship committee, Lota and her teacher, Kyle Bashore, turned to their go-to resource: Rubin Emerge.

Back to Lota’s story.
Lota used the Emerge unit called Interview Prep, which guides the student to research and develop thoughtful questions for the people who conduct the interview.
Lota followed the Emerge instructions and blew the room away with her curiosity.
Lota’s Hard Work Paid Off – She Won the Scholarship!
After the interview round, one student stood out: Lota. Why? She demonstrated interest in the alumni group rather than only talk about herself.
Thus, the $40,000 scholarship is all hers — $10,000/year for each of her four years at UCLA.
What’s more, Lota gained a lifelong professional skill.
